Rugby League Proving Popular in the Northern Territory

THE come and try rugby league carnival proved to be a huge success for 100 children of Katherine last Friday.

Students from Clyde Fenton, MacFarlane, St Joseph’s Catholic College and Casuarina Street Primary Schools all took part in preparation for the junior season.

This was the first time that 100 students had participated.

“Players like Parramatta Eels star Luke Kelly have come through this same system,” Casuarina Street Primary School student Silvana Goldbach-Eggert could be one of those players after being awarded the player of the carnival. The 11-year-old scored three tries in a dominate performance.

“I have never played rugby league before but it was really fun,” she said.

“I learnt to keep on my feet and the try I scored while three people were pulling me was a highlight,” Silvana said.
